Aranea explains what cherubs are here but essentially they’re a race of green aliens with an exoskeleton that hatch from eggs. They hatch as a snake and then pupate into a humanoid creature. Two personalities are present in the body and while one is asleep, the other will be awake. One personality is benevolent and the other is malevolent. Eventually one personality will dominate and have complete control of the body, which is signaled by their cheek swirls filling in. When they grow up, they grow either white or black wings for good and evil, respectively.

Kanaya states here that re population is among the long term responsibilities of the players so that may be the reason why there is an even number of male and female players in the sessions.
