Well he grabbed her wrist which stopped the cuts from digging into his face too much, if he did it hard enough he could have broken her wrist.

I think John’s been hinted at as asexual but he’ll never truly realize it because he is just the “Straight Guy”™ and will never really question his sexuality. But maybe that’s just me.
I also personally headcanon Eridan as asexual.
