All of the guardians were supposedly aware of their charge and the playing of sburb ahead of time, but I can't recall why. One of them had a bunch of newspaper clippings and stuff about them.

I dont know if I missed something later on, but on page 003779 Bro find Dave in the meteor and is "prepared for the occasion with a small pair of outrageously awesome shades." Did he know he was going to find Dave?

Oh, good! I'm not the only one confused by this then!. I suppose that would explain it... I guess, maybe, it's just another detail that slipped out of Andrew's memory? He's said that happens on occasion. An explanation would still be nice, though.

Yeah, Andrew HAS said a lot that the comic is so huge, so not everything can be remembered.

I think they mean "told what to do" in a narrative sense. I think characters in the story can tell them what to do just fine. You just can't boss them around from outside the story. Because we've also seen Tavros control normal guardians, which is something that was said to be impossible in-story.

It says on page 004154 that First Guardians can't be told what to do. However, we've seen gCat being controlled by the Condesce and Bec by Tavros. Thoughts?

Wow, I’ve actually been thinking about this. First ask in a while that actually made me think pretty hard. Maybe the guardians were like, I don’t know how to put it, “off guard” a little, so to speak. So they could be controlled? Oh wait, or maybe if like, you are in a panic or NEED something done (like, how an Adrenaline rush would affect a human.) They could control the guardians.
