fluorite octet anon was asking if the order of the dice roll would affect the outcome; if it did, then rolling 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 8 would give a different result than 8, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1. I think they were assuming that you roll the dice one at a time, rather than all at once though.

The main defense for the order mattering is here, where it says Vriska odds of rolling the perfect result is 1 in 16,777,216. Which is true, the chance of rolling 8 8s is that likely, but that can’t be used to say order matters since all the numbers are the same. If it said that about a roll being 1,2,3,4,5,5,6,7 then yes that would be evidence of order-dependence. And you might say “But putting so much emphasis into how much a long shot it is kind of an argument for it being non-order dependent, implying that other results are easier to obtain”. But that can’t be used either since again, the probability of getting 8 of the same number is that high. So yeah, we really can’t be 100% sure
