Hiveswap is set in the 1990’s, homestuck didn’t start until 2009.

Has there been any explanation as to how the unhackable ~th code that runs at the end of both universes came about? Because that seems like a pretty critical component to Lord English's existence that actually hasn't been explained yet (Lil Cal/souls are only directly connected to doc scratch, in terms of things being combined to make more things).

Yes, well when John made his deal with Typheus it came at a price that price is that someone would have to suffer. John didn’t know the specifics but the person that had to suffer was Jade. So Retconned LoWaS exploded killing Retcon John and Davesprite causing Jade to spend the next three years alone.
