In the pre retcon timeline Gamzee was the one who prototyped Equius behind Dirk’s back and Dirk just decided to prototype AR for the second tier because he promised he would. In the post retcon timeline Vriska was the one to prototype Equius.

Thank you, it’s been that for about three years I think, long before my time as a mod.  I do remember that it was changed to Jade because she used to forget things in the beginning of the story.
