We’ve seen him take his shades off before, he have bright red sight orbs

For an explainatiin, the reason a ring of life cherub doesn't go back into its body is because the ghost itself is what becomes alive. That's why losing the ring makes you a ghost again. Maybe helps characters that were blown to bits or crushed.
